- Next to York station, the magnificent Principal hotel – a former Victorian railway hotel – has a small leisure club in its lower levels that includes a spa whirlpool-bath as well as a pool, sauna, steam room and gym plus a small spa. Just the ticket after a long train journey or a hard day’s sight-seeing. Bedrooms are wonderfully relaxing, too, in sleek and calm colours.
- A few minutes from The Principal, and in the former headquarters of the North Eastern Railway Company, The Grand has also converted its subterranean vaults area into a leisure complex with spa whirlpool, pool and spa treatment rooms. This five-star hotel lives up to its name, with generous-size bedrooms, and plenty of areas to relax.
Hotels close to York with hot tubs
- In parkland surrounds, yet only 10 minutes from the centre of York, Middlethorpe Hall is a classic country-house hotel. Rooms are furnished with antiques while two Edwardian cottages in the gardens have been converted into a spa with a conservatory extension that includes a spa bath and pool as well as a sauna and steam room. It’s totally indulgent, just like their splendid afternoon teas and dinners.
