If you’ve ever watched the 1990 film Pretty Woman, you’ve probably wanted to check into the luxurious 1928 landmark hotel, the Beverly Wilshire, and sashay around the ostentatious lily-scented lobby made famous by actors Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Even if you haven’t, you’ll love it for its perfect combination of quality, luxury, and old Hollywood glamour, the latter not lost even after its meticulous refurb - the original doorbells sit outside each room and brass mail tubes by lifts – at one time guests could shoot letters to the lobby through them for posting. Entry-level rooms are spacious and just about affordable. Out of this world are the 12 unimaginably large suites, some with wrap-around balconies. A drink on the buzzy front terrace is a must, to watch life play out in this crazy celeb-saturated enclave, before a spa session and dinner at celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s classic steakhouse, CUT.

The Beverly Wilshire is as close to a European grand hotel as you'll find in L.A.—with impeccable service to match.
