“Located in the peaceful Esk Valley with views of the moors sits this large Victorian farmhouse B&B. Cottage-style rooms are airy and luxurious with modern bathrooms. Enjoy tea and scones in the sitting room or sun-dappled gardens. Two good pubs within a 10-minute walk. A lovely country escape.”

Hotel review

A 10-minute walk outside the village of Egton Bridge in the North York Moors National Park, this handsome former farmhouse is surrounded by moors and farmland. Immensely peaceful, and sitting in an acre of gardens, several walks start from its doorstep. Owners Michael and Georgina run a relaxed show, greeting guests with tea and home-made cake and handing them a key to come and go as they please. Be aware, they live off-site in the village, but are only a phone call away. Original features – high ceilings, large sash windows – have been retained but carefully modernised with flagged floors, neutral walls and pale oak doors to create a low-key luxurious B&B. An extension contains a large breakfast-room with a bolder, more modern style with doors straight onto a terrace and the garden. Bedrooms have a light, cottagey yet uncluttered feel; two have private entrances, most have slick bathrooms with natural light. Two rooms in the new wing are more contemporary while the attic rooms are cosy with beams, and have the best views of the moors. For evening meals, there are two pubs in the village, including the excellent beamed-and-oak-panelled Postgate Inn. Train buffs will be thrilled that the charming Esk Valley Railway line borders the garden; trains are slow and infrequent so don’t noticeably disturb the peace.
