“An imposing 17th century chateau set in beautiful parkland in the Champagne region. Lovingly renovated throughout, rooms are french chic with four poster beds, chintz fabrics and antique furniture. Dine on modern regional dishes and select wines from the impressive cellar. Rural bliss.”

Hotel Review
A hotel with soul and no spa; shabby-chic, yet grand and clean. An hour and a half drive from Paris, Chateau de Courcelles is ideal for a rural week-end break from Paris, or for those coming from the UK, there are good Eurostar connections to both Lille and Paris. Part of the Relais & Chateau group, this is a country house hotel of old, not a boutique hotel, no bling. Instead, comfortable interiors of interest which have been decorated with sensitivity to the architecture. The house was built in 1690-94, restrained and classical with circular staircase tower and hipped roofs distinctly French. This a hotel for those that care more for an architectural and landscape experience than those that need pampering. The grounds of the hotel complete the country house feel, starting with sweeping drive up to the house, past tennis court and paddock (missing a horse or two); woodland, a canal, a swimming pool, statues but not too many, stable block and annexe rooms cleverly created in former carriage houses. The numerous vistas suggest a French Capability Brown has been at work. The upper rooms have views beyond the grounds over surrounding fields and woods. The rural idyll is matched with Michelin star food served by suitably Gallic waiters and waitresses in two indoor dining rooms and, in the summer, in a conservatory and terrace as well. The reception staff were delightful.
