Deciding they needed a career change and opting to create their own business, Dave and his partner Javier plumped on the idea of an eco friendly, adults only guesthouse in the Asturias, where true relaxation could be found. El Gran Sueno (or "the big sleep" to those of you who don't speak Spanish) was born! Rooms are decorated in a simple, contemporary style with carefully chosen design pieces and antiques. Three of the five rooms have an original Juliette balcony and the superior room boasts its own terrace. All have stunning views either of the pretty local hamlet, Picos de Europa or the Sierra del Sueve. Breakfast is a relaxed affair, sleep as long as you like - there's no 10am deadline here - then start your day with freshly squeezed Valencian orange juice (when in season) followed by an array of organic delights from freshly baked breads to local artisanal cheese and home-made jams. Dave and Javier also offer a three course table d'hotes style dinner with fine dining touches - think crisp white linen, and candles aplenty! But apart from all of the above the main reason to come to El Gran Sueno is simply to visit one of Spain's best hidden gems. Aside from stunning scenery, awesome wildlife and wonderful beaches you'll find quaint villages and a plethora of fabulous eateries with several Michelin starred establishments in the region. A truly wonderful country escape!
