All pop art colours and bright young (ish) things, this designer dive is a reminder that Athens still loves the glamour of the swinging '60s. Formerly sleazy Omonia has recovered much of its 1930s class and is handy for everything, from ancient sites and museums to Piraeus and the airport via the Metro. A great spot for a one-night stopover or a long weekend, but bring a stylish attitude (and wardrobe). Chilling in the Imperia Ice Club (it's kept at -5°C) is a must.

"Couples who want a taste of trendy Athens head for this hip downtown hotel, with a coloured plexiglass façade, rooftop plunge pool and an edgy vibe."
