Hotel Review
The only hotel in Florence with a heated outdoor pool (picturesquely set amidst exquisite rose gardens and Classical sculptures) the magnificent 19th century Villa Cora is testament to one man's love for his wife - who unfortunately did not reciprocate! This historic building has recently been completely restored by 'Why the Best Hotels' who have lavished as much attention on the interiors and landscaping (if not more so) than the original love-struck owner. Grandiose is the overwhelming impression, from the moment you drive up to the port-cochere and step into the frescoed and gilded salon for check-in. But the design is cleverly contemporary too – the neon glass cocktail bar, for example, glows like a lava-light beneath Baroque chandeliers! This seductive mix is continued into the 46 individual bedroom suites, each more luxurious than the last with Carrera marble bathrooms, immaculate linens and in some cases a private lift. The quietly efficient and friendly service soon has you thoroughly cocooned and it is hard to tear yourself away from such tranquil exclusivity to explore the busy sights of Florence a short taxi drive away. The Spa is further temptation - housed in a pretty pink-stuccoed guest house in the garden.
