Ponsonby is an urbane historic village in Auckland, home to the city’s most vibrant cafés and restaurants. The Great Ponsonby Art Hotel is a colourful boutique B&B in the heart of the area, owned and run by locals Sally and Gerry. They’re committed to running an eco friendly place, and have lovingly restored the 1894 heritage wooden home to a warm and fuel-efficient hotel, leaving original features and charm intact. Rooms vary in size and price, and are kitted out with unique handmade furniture and quirky furnishings. Art from across New Zealand and the Pacific region hang by large bay windows and each room has as much character as the local personality they take their name from. Large breakfasts are made from local and seasonal produce, some of which is grown in the garden, and include tropical fruits, homemade yoghurt and free range eggs Benedict. This clean, comfortable and welcoming place feels like a home away from home.
