“This four-star boutique hotel is nestled in the stylish Oltrarno district of Florence. Rooms are individually dressed in a blend of modern and traditional design; cool greys contrast with the terracotta tiled floors and wooden accents. Don't miss the hotel's pretty secret garden. A luxury city stay.”

Hotel review

Horto Convento is situated on the southern side of the River Arno, at a short distance from the city's hub but still close to the main attractions. The benefits of its location - set within grounds that include a garden and a small terrace - is that it is sheltered from the noise of the city centre, making it a more peaceful stay that downtown hotels. The hoteliers have sought to combine the classical elegance of Florentine style with a modern feel; the Art Deco interior allows for plenty of light, while the palette of greys and white in the rooms is broken up with splashes of deep colour. The preference for marble wins out in the bathrooms, but there's no gilded edges - a relief after a day sightseeing in baroque Florence. Furnishings have been sourced locally from design studio Studio Casa Rex Florence. There is a bright breakfast room for guests overlooking the garden, with a good buffet on offer. If the weather is nice you can even eat outside, with a modest garden terrace offering al fresco dining. The hotel bar has to be the jewel in the crow; framed by two pillars and with an Art Deco relief ceiling, it's elegant yet understated. Overall, a smart new boutique hotel.
