When you step through the door of this modern Alpine chalet, you can hardly believe it was built in 1988. Traditional decoration and materials, handsome marquetry and carved wood make it seem much older. A Renaissance tiled stove is the focal point of the charming breakfast room, with its 18th-century-style painted wood panels. Although each bedroom is slightly different, they are all done out in Tyrolean fashion; some wood-panelled; others painted; all cosy. Staff are friendly and courteous, and staying here is such a pleasure, it’s definitely worth the commute from the city centre.
