“This intimate lodge is nestled in a nature reserve in Punta de Mita, Mexico. Guest suites blend with the natural environment, with wood-framed windows that open onto the forest. Unwind by a private terrace pool with sea views or book the treehouse for true jungle immersion; a luxury nature retreat.”

Hotel review

Punta Mita, a quiet, traditional fishing village on Banderas Bay, is home to beautiful, hidden beaches and a protected jungle. Turtles nest on the sandy stretches of coastline, while humpback whales gather to breed in the waters, making this a biodiverse, paradise setting for a luxury resort. At thirty miles from Puerto Vallarta, the area is also reasonably accessible for visitors. Imanta Resort has been designed to disrupt this natural environment as little as possible; at just 11 guest suites, this boutique lodge reduces impact by limiting the number of guests at a given time, which also means service feels personalised and attentive. Guest spaces have been imagined so as to let nature take centre stage, using unobtrusive materials and blurring the lines between inside and outside space. Suites have been custom-designed by Imanta and are generously sized. Flagstone floors feel cool underfoot and the wood-framed wicker doors become an extension of the jungle outside, sliding open to reveal jungle, mountain or sea views. A luxurious terrace bath comes as standard, sheltered by fronds from the surrounding flora. Private villas offer a luxury family or group trip; the Casona Jaguar is the cream of the crop, with a 70-foot-long pool, three bedrooms and a hot tub. The hotel offers guests the opportunity to interact with local culture and tradition through a range of experiences; try the temezcal ritual, an ancient, spiritual healing experience, and undergo a body-hydration ceremony. For active holidaymakers, there are great hiking packages and guided jungle trails, while couples can enjoy a special clifftop breakfast for a romantic start to the day. Striking the fine balance between eco and luxury, it is unsurprising that this resort is making waves in Mexico and beyond.

Room with a view: Casona Jaguar, Imanta Resort

As if en-suite spa treatments by your very own 70-foot-long pool weren’t enough, your room sits at the southern tip of a private beach—so private, in fact, that it’s a popular nesting spot for turtles and overlooks a breeding ground for humpback whales. (From December through March, you’ll see the white flukes of the beasts rise and fall like shooting stars right from your daybed.)
