“A fabulous escape with four laid-back yet elegant bungalows - the oldest of which dates back two centuries - set within leafy gardens. A refreshing swimming pool & open-sided restaurant-bar await, along with shared sitting rooms & kitchens. The C Beach Club & Château are open to guests.”

Hotel review

A Mauritian favourite with good reason, Kaz'alala promises a charming, laid-back boutique experience in the island's wild south-west. Set within the beautifully maintained Domaine de Bel Ombre — and just steps from the historic Château de Bel Ombre — this understated retreat is made up of four cottages, each with three to six guest bedrooms. Every cottage has its own shared kitchen and sitting room, plus a covered terrace for kicking back in the shade. Cooking is very much optional, as there's a cracking little eatery onsite, with flavoursome buffet breakfasts and à la carte lunches and dinners of daily specials — all with a warm Mauritian twist. Sip locally distilled rum at the bar, chat to the friendly team about island life, or watch birds flit between the trees whilst lounging poolside.

Much of the magic of Kaz'alala lies in its low-key feel, ideal for quiet couples, or for groups of friends eager to have a whole house to themselves. Each bungalow is themed — red for Cabane du Cardinale, blue for Lakaz La Mer, for instance — and the oldest dates back two centuries. Once a sugar plantation, the vast surrounding estate now boasts a spectacular golf course, two seaside resorts with multiple restaurants, and a dazzling nature reserve. Guests at Kaz'alala enjoy a discount at the C Beach Club — with great pizzas and seafood, ocean views and lively tunes — as well as access to resort pools and the beach. Sundowners at the Château come highly recommended, as do strolls beneath age-old trees on the leafy paths of the estate. A hideaway which feels like a little world all of its own!
