Hotel review

One of the most delicious and immediately appealing little hotels I have come across in a long time, La Devinière is the benign kingdom of the equally charming and benign Bernard Carrère, who has run the place for 25 years as a “maison des amis”, filling it with books, china and delightful objets d’art. The six bedrooms, though small (with tiny bathrooms) are as homely and artfully decorated as the ground floor sale des thés and salon bibliothèque that opens onto the pretty garden. Here we found M. Carrère stretched out on a deck chair on our unannounced visit; but he soon got up and told us all…we cannot wait to return. If you want TVs and minibars, don’t come here; if you want character, do.
