Hotel review

A world-class spa (Henri Chenot) employing 30 therapists, doctors and others - and a chef - Gualtiero Marchesi - who has been called ‘the Father of Modern Italian Cuisine’ put L’Albereta in the top league. It is not particularly pretty and to English eyes, there is rather too much dodgy modern sculpture. There are some small housekeeping problems too (a scorched lampshade, a wobbly shelf). But the food is wonderful, there are linen sheets, the Bella Vista vineyards are just next door and a golf course is only 4km away. There is much to enjoy.
