This homely manor house, originally built for one of Napoleon's generals, was converted into an hotel in the 1950s and given new life in 2004. It's set in four hectares of land on the edge of a national park (the Parc Naturel de la Valmasque) - perfect for exploring on foot. Horses graze around the pond where lily pads from Tokyo turn fuschia-coloured in the summer. From every level the views are impressive. The feel and décor is rustic with some original features including beamed ceilings and no two rooms are the same. All are spacious, light and airy with air-conditioning and 100% Egyptian Cotton bed linens, though the bathrooms are a little old fashioned. They also have some family ‘villas' - ideal if you've got the kids in tow! The food does not disappoint either, the restaurant serves good Provencal cuisine. Le Manoir d'Etang is a lovely place to stay in the Cote d’Azur, and one of the best reasons to book is its atmosphere - there's almost a house party feel created by the owner, who spends plenty of time chatting to her guests - you feel many of them leave as friends. A varied clientele includes yoga groups and golfers (there's a great selection of good courses nearby), but Le Manoir d'Etang is also perfect for a family gathering or group trip.

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Staying at Le Manoir is like staying home away from home, without the hassle. I try to create a relaxed atmosphere with full service by a competent and friendly team. The location is quite unique as the hotel is close to everywhere, but set in complete calm. What is there to do in the area? Golf, tennis, walking, local markets, art museums, gastronomy, beaches and mountains. Italy is less than one hour away as is the Luberon. What kind of breakfast do you offer? A continental breakfast with fresh fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice, yoghurt, local viennoiseries & baguette. Cheese, ham and eggs on demand. Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We have a restaurant with plenty of terraces for outside eating when the weather permits. Mougins village is only 5 minutes by car with plenty of restaurants; Valbonne, Cannes and Antibes are only 15 minutes away by car with all they have to offer. Which are your most popular room types, and why? Deluxe rooms, as they have beautiful views and plenty of space. What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ? We can fit extra beds in almost all rooms. There is a swimming pool, plenty of garden and 6 horses on the grounds. Nearby there is a park with playground and at the bottom of Le Manoir there is a lotus covered lake with plenty of ducks. What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? We look forward to welcoming you at Le Manoir de l’Etang, an authentic manor house set in 12 acres of land on the Côte d’Azur with rooms and restaurant. Our friendly team is waiting to look after you.
