Originally built as a bordello and saloon, this lovingly restored property survived the 1906 earthquake, housing some of the homeless at the time. It served as a speakeasy in the 1920s and many of its original architectural details remain, sitting seamlessly alongside today's modern conveniences. The Maximilian junior suite is located at the corner of the hotel, in the original 1875 structure. Enjoy neighbourhood views of San Francisco from the bay window alcove. The suite has a separate sitting room with a futon convertible sofa bed and a deep full-sized bathtub in the newly remodelled marble bathroom. For rich opulence opt for the Comstock room decorated with period wallpaper of rich bue damask, antiques and an alabaster chandelier. An elegant interior leads to an equally elegant exterior with all this upscale area has to offer, from historic architecture (many buildings are open to the public) to high-end boutiques and cafes. A wonderful stay in one of the city's finest neighbourhoods.
