“A cool country house-style hotel in residential Santa Monica offers both long-stay and weekend break suites. Welcomed by a roaring fireplace at reception the rooms mirror this essence of home. Spacious, contemporary and comfortable. It's perfect for local exploring, doing some work and relaxing.”

Hotel review

Walking through the ornate metal gates of the Palihouse Santa Monica, through the garden, past the trickling fountain, into the dimly lit high-ceilinged lobby feels like you’ve discovered a grand English country house. The building dates to 1927 and was once the Embassy Hotel and Apartments. It’s been beautifully refurbished retaining the original features, like dark-wood beams, sash windows, fireplaces and creaky old lifts reminiscent of those you’d find in Paris. Playful additions give it the trademark Palisociety feel: vintage furniture and artwork, velvet sofas, brightly upholstered armchairs, cool stationery, and giant TVs. There are 38 rooms to choose from, including one- and two-bedroom suites with separate kitchens. There’s no restaurant or bar or pool, so it's not a hotel in a traditional sense. But there is a small café serving breakfast and lunch, like juice and salad, hotel bikes available to rent for a fee, and boules or croquet sets for playing in the garden.
