Hotel Review
It’s rare to find a beach hotel that you would be happy to return to time and time again, but the San Nicolas seems to engender this feeling amongst its guests. The hotel is attractively laid out on several landscaped levels, softened with plenty of pretty pink oleander, lavender, trailing bougainvillea, vivid geraniums, fragrant roses and olives in large terracotta amphorae. Bedrooms are simple and spacious with white muslin drapes and picture windows overlooking the bay in the main building and with additional newer suites on an adjacent terrace. All have balconies or garden terraces.
The Bar and poolside area is particularly charming at night with twinkling fairy lights in the trees and the moon glistening on the sea. The Mare e Monti restaurant, cantilevered out from the pool, is open for dinner every night with perhaps an over-sophisticated menu, but for simpler local dishes, calamari and fresh fish, there are plenty of charming tavernas within a short walk.
Of course, for a beach holiday, you need a sun lounger and the San Nicolas has plenty all with their own umbrella for those who prefer a little shade. Flop off your bed straight into the crystal clear turquoise Ionian sea, splash around and come back to a shower and a cooling glass of beer from the well-attended beach and snack bar. Kayaks, pedal boats (pink flamingos !) motor boats, jet ski can all be arranged and moored off the private pontoon. For a super relaxing upmarket break by the sea you will be hard pressed to beat the Saint Nicholas in Lefkas with the added bonus is that it’s so handy for Preveza Airport (40 minutes by taxi)
