The Beckford Arms is the embodiment of the perfect weekend away destination. Under two hours from London (not too close and yet not too far for that sneaky weekend treat), it is situated on the edge of the Fonthill Estate in South Wiltshire. Loving restored by current owners Charlie Luxford and Dan Brod, it is now a charming combination of country pub and stylish boutique hotel (without the accompanying high prices). The emphasis here is on quality, whether it be the locally sourced produce that goes into the delicious food, or the super comfy beds, digital radios and ipod docking stations in every room. Most eventualities have been thought of; from cosy hot water bottles for freezing winter nights, to cinema nights on Sundays, when you can slump in one of the deep sofas in the Sitting room with a plate of something comforting and watch the weekly choice. In addition to the eight bedrooms housed in the pub itself, there are now two luxurious lodges on offer, just a ten minute stroll away. These are perfect for a secluded romantic tryst and come with fully stocked fridge for your brekkie. The atmosphere is very laid back, and the Beckford certainly provides a cosseting experience that leaves you wanting to come back for more.

The Sunday Times Home section recently named Tisbury one of the best places to live in Britain, and this pub certainly helps the cause..
