“Set within the historic grounds of the Duke of Somerset’s estate, this traditional village pub with rooms boasts art and antiques and a cool cosy vibe curated by a Soho House designer. Fine dining, roaring fires and a lovely summer garden make it a perfect weekend getaway in beautiful countryside.”

Hotel review

This traditional pub with rooms, off-the-beaten track in a picture postcard village, has been done up with matchless taste by an ex-Soho House designer, with well-chosen modern art on the walls and a good selection of antiques. The Coach House rooms are spacious and comfortable (one is wheelchair accessible and two have A/C), as well as dog friendly if you have a pooch in tow; while the rooms in the main building have more of a shabby-chic appeal. Their full English breakfast is excellent. Most of the old pub interior is given over to dining, with the added bonus of an excellent cocktail list, and the place is popular for miles around and often packed. For groups, there's a private dining room, and in summer there's a lovely garden for sitting out. If you are looking to explore the area, there are fine walks on the doorstep, and Longleat, Stourhead and Bruton are a short drive away. This is a perfect weekend escape in beautiful countryside.

Great British boltholes

Pubs rarely feel this perfect. Within a handsome Victorian building, floorboards and flagstones are bedecked with rugs, walls daubed with Farrow & Ball colours, and armchairs are set by a wood burner beneath striking modern art.
