The Corner hotel sits in a beautiful Art Nouveau townhouse on Viale Aventino, the main road that connects Piazza di Porta Capena and Piazza Albania. Well-located for exploring the sights, it sits just outside of the busiest tourist areas. The townhouse has been beautifully restored and boasts many original features, from oak herringbone flooring to marble fireplaces. Split over three floors, accessible via a lift, the hotel's ten rooms have a pared-back feel in spite of the rich colour palettes. All rooms have a 300-thread duvet, which makes for a luxurious night's sleep. The highlight of the suites has to be the Suite Royal; the room boasts an original fireplace and concave windows with plush curtains and a leather window seat. Outside on the private terrace, there is a tiled, Roman-style cascading bath with a cushioned bench. Guests can choose between a café, restaurant and stylish bar for food and drink; the restaurant, headed by Michelin-starred chef Marco Martini, serves delightful Italian cuisine with an Oriental twist. The lounge garden is a cosy, low-lit affair with a domed, stained-glass bar and brilliant cocktails. For the discerning visitor looking for a more relaxed guesthouse in the guilded eternal city, this is the perfect bolt-hole.
