“An ancient ivy-clad hotel, reputedly Britain's oldest, in the charming town of Buxton. Traditional rooms feature pretty chintz wall paper, heavy draped curtains, antique furniture and, some, four poster beds. A popular restaurant and bar complete this wonderfully British escape.”

Hotel Review
Once dubbed ‘that house of Royal intrigue’, this handsome, ivy clad hotel plum in the centre of Buxton regularly played host to Mary Queen of Scots who came to take the waters. The Opera House which hosts the thriving Buxton Arts Festival each July is just across the road. Friendly staff, resident ghosts and other famous historical guests makes up for the somewhat bland public rooms. Opt if you can for the classic bedrooms or those with four posters. Wine bar menu for pre or post opera dinners or a grander a la carte menu in the restaurant.
