Stockbridge has a village identity all its own, and The Raeburn's location is more peaceful than some city centre rivals, while still within easy reach (on foot or by bus) of Edinburgh's sights. With Edinburgh Academicals rugby ground (claimed to be the oldest in the world) on the doorstep and Grange Cricket Club across the road, The Raeburn will appeal to sports fans. Inside a Georgian townhouse built in 1832, ten bedrooms are painted muted creams and greys, set off by plum-coloured soft furnishings and shiny wood floors. Perks include mini-bars stocked with spirits, wines and champagne, complimentary bottled water and fresh (not UHT) milk, and there are complimentary Ipads in all rooms. Bathrooms have roll-top baths and walk-in rain showers and are stocked with Arran Aromatics toiletries. In the laid-back restaurant the menu is pubby, with dishes such as shin of beef and onion pie, fish and chips, burgers and plentiful veggie options. There's a plethora of eating and drinking options nearby, including Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin's acclaimed Scran and Scallie gastro-pub.
