“Luxury townhouse B&B magnificently set on Berwick’s town walls with stunning views over the River Tweed estuary. Rooms are light and elegant, breakfasts a highlight and the atmosphere relaxed. It's a great base from which to explore the town and surrounding coastline.”

Hotel review

This substantial Georgian townhouse has, arguably, one of the best locations in Berwick. Sitting on the Elizabethan walls, it overlooks the estuary of the River Tweed with uninterrupted views of the river’s magnificent bridges as well as the comings and goings of boats and wildlife. The three large and light bedrooms face the front – the first-floor rooms have the finer views – and offer a light and elegant, country-house style with shuttered sash windows, sleigh beds or wrought-iron bedsteads, tiled fireplaces and sweeping curtains. Although bathrooms can be on the small side, they’re smart and modern.

Owners Stephen and Louise welcome guests with tea and home-made biscuits in the comfortable sitting-room and are generous with their time in helping guests make the most of their stay. They also have good, tried-and-tested recommendations of local pubs and restaurants. Breakfast is one of the highlights, served in the downstairs dining-room, with interesting choices such as home-made fishcakes or scrambled eggs with Parma ham. After a day spent exploring the local coast or Scottish Borders, it’s a treat to return to a glass of wine from the honesty bar and a good book in front of the toasty wood-burning stove.
