Brimming with a sense of place, the rooms here are each named after a King or Queen of Portugal, with a potted history of their life provided on your bedside table. Wooden floors, woven Portuguese rugs and antique furniture fill some rooms whilst others are more contemporary in style. Many have pretty, wrought iron balconies with tiled floors. All come with Nespresso machines and there is a mix of showers and bathtubs throughout.
The small bar on the ground floor is not to be missed with its intricate stucco ceiling and range of local Portuguese wines. The restaurant, Cave 23, is found in the courtyard down some steps from the front of the hotel and hidden behind a wall of glass. Its menu is both interesting and impressive with dishes such as swordfish, garlic, seaweed, katsobushi or the extraordinary oxtail with pickles and caramel. There is an excellent wine list and a good sommelier who will happily prepare a wine pairing for you.
Outside the hotel, a swimming pool with views over the capital makes a wonderful spot to while away a sunny afternoon.

These two turn-of-the-century mansions, hidden away on one of the seven hills of Lisbon, have been elegantly converted into a 28-room hotel. A beautiful swimming pool inset on a cobbled terrace offers views right across the capital, whilst restaurant Cave 23 delivers seriously good modern Portuguese fare.
