“This boutique bolt-hole is nestled within a colonial-era mansion on the Islands of Turks and Caicos. The bright, blue and white facade gives way to elegant rooms with native wood flooring, heritage-style furnishings and pretty balconies, many with romantic sea views - perfect for an island getaway.”

'I began to think of these islands as top-secret'
Herb Harrington is a big, bluff American who has seen and done a lot in his 40‐odd years. He has a doctorate in psychology from Harvard, claims to know Timothy Leary and keeps in touch with the world by infrequent trips back to Boston, while his British‐born wife, Valerie, manages the Turks Head Inn. The bar there is practically the second seat of government; certainly as much business is transacted there over the chilled Heinekens as across the desks at Government House, just a few minutes' stroll along Queen Street. (Grand Turk's other inn, Doernbach's Sunset Manor, is newer and charges about the same—$18 double in season, without meals—but it lacks the ambience of Turks Head Inn. As this goes to press, word from the islands is that the Turks Head Inn is under new management.)
