Backed by Pyrgos old town’s winding cobbled streets and bijou cafes, this stone-built boutique hotel hidden behind high stone walls has nine spacious open-plan self-catering suites with ample plunge pools, or large whirlpool baths, and good-size terraces with distant caldera views.

Style is traditional with plenty of modern touches: custard-coloured tadelakt floors; smooth plastered walls; wooden doors and windows with shutters. There’s local artwork on the walls, a lounge/kitchen with sofa, table, hob and a full oven, and the in-room sink, separated from the lounge area by a low wall, is a chunk of beautifully striped marble shaped like an oyster shell.

Breakfast of fresh croissants, local honey, strong coffee, fresh orange juice, local pastries and a choice of hot dishes is served to terrace or room each morning.
