Blending the classic Amsterdam canal house style with a very modern perspective, this quirky hotel celebrates Dutch designer Marcel Wanders’ striking whimsical vision. Elements like the Dutch Golden Age, Delft pottery and Alice in Wonderland are mixed together and reinvented using bold colours, furniture and flourishes. The hotel boasts a swish cocktail bar and restaurant and the comfortable guest rooms are equally cheerful and fun, with exuberant Amsterdam-referenced wallpapers and room features such as bright red and yellow tulip chairs and colourful clogs affixed to walls. The icing on the cake is the splendid location, on one of the city’s grander canals by the buzzing Negen Straatjes (Nine Streets) shopping and dining quarter, and also the popular Jordaan district. Top sights are all around.

A dream-like design adventure, in a former library building on one of Amsterdam’s loveliest canals. It's close to the Anne Frank House and prime shopping districts; rooms are large, well-equipped and comfortable; and service is bright. There’s also a tranquil spa, a hip cocktail bar and an excellent restaurant.
