Set among carob, almond and olive trees in the Llevant Nature Reserve, in the northeastern part of the island, Son Barbassa makes for a smart rural hideaway for those seeking peaceful isolation. Originally a finca, incorporating a sixteenth century watch tower, it has been a well-maintained hotel since 2003. The decor is simple - white linen, terracotta tiles, rustic wooden furniture, bare honey-coloured stone walls and bamboo details prevail. The pool, reached via a lavender and rose-scented rock garden, is flanked by canopied beds with wafting white muslin. Food is freshly prepared using ingredients grown in the garden - peas, broad beans, lemons, oranges, almonds as well as the in-house olive oil - and served in the glass walled restaurant or on the terrace looking across to the medieval village of Capdepera. Great effort has been made to provide guests with different areas to relax within the hotel and the grounds. An excellent base for those looking for easy access to both beaches and mountains.
