“An imposing manor house with sumptuous interiors and a seriously good restaurant. Eleven individually designed rooms boast Egyptian linens and an opulent feel. The Michelin-starred restaurant serves innovative dishes using local seasonal produce. The perfect rural escape.”

Hotel review

Nestled in the Peak District, along a winding tree-lined drive, Fischer’s Baslow Hall is a small country manor hotel best known for its Michelin-starred restaurant. Many guests visit for the special tasting menu of creative, beautifully-presented dishes in the elegant, candle-lit dining room, with its crisp white table cloths and polished silverware. Or why not dine at the four-seater 'kitchen tasting bench' to watch Head Chef, John Shuttleworth, and team work their magic? Ingredients are sustainably and locally-sourced or homegrown in the hotel’s garden and service is efficient, formal yet welcoming. The small bar makes for a cosy spot for after-dinner cocktails by the fire, before retiring to one of 11 guest rooms for a comfortable night’s sleep.

Rooms in the main house have traditional interiors like canopy bed curtains and antique furniture, plus Bramley toiletries in the modern bathrooms. It’s lovely to wake up to peaceful views over the walled garden before devouring a tasty full English breakfast downstairs. There’s plenty to do on the doorstep of Fischer’s, including foraging experiences with the hotel, scenic Peak District walks, Chatsworth House and wandering the picturesque streets of Baslow village.

Fischer’s at Baslow Hall: restaurant review

Fischer’s is all Alice bands, chintz and over-stuffed pillows. It would be funny if the food wasn’t so damn good
