“This boutique hotel is situated in an 18th-century palace in the chic Janelas Verdes neighbourhood of Lisbon. Guestrooms feature original ceramic tiles, antique furniture and rich linens; book a suite for a heritage fireplace. Unwind with a drink by the pool or in the cosy bar; a stylish bolt-hole. ”

Hotel review

With a quaint riverside location in the pretty residential neighbourhood of Janelas Verdes, this palatial Lisbon hotel scores highly for its heritage detail and 18th-century grandeur. Palacio Ramalhete is located in an original Portuguese palace with classic azulejos and preserved stucco features; the conversion from palace to hotel is completed with the addition of a chic terrace swimming pool and a bar. The bright and spacious guestrooms feature wooden floors, antique furniture and original tiles; book a luxury suite for wood panelling and other heritage details including a copper fireplace. It is these beautifully preserved accents which mark this hotel out from the rest. Though there is no restaurant, the hotel serves breakfast on the patio in summer and there is a well-stocked bar to meet your poolside cocktail needs. The pretty internal courtyard gives the feeling of being in your own private summer home, making this hotel a chic stay for in-the-know visitors to Lisbon.

Palacio Ramalhete

This attractive 18th-century palace delivers a real feel of authentic Lisbon, with its rich interior detail, flower-filled courtyards and literary past as home to the Maia family, immortalised in Eҁa de Queiroz’s 19th-century classic Os Maias.
