A $50million refurbishment ten years ago put the ritz on this Italian Art Nouveau hotel that attracts royalty of the titled and showbiz varieties. Those with money to spare book the Presidential Suite, with its private pool and Turkish sauna, but every room is fit for a queen, featuring panelling inlaid with shimmering fabrics, recherché ornaments and swathes of plush textiles. It’s a place to indulge in old-school glamour rather than the minimalist-industrial vibe of modern luxury hotels. Bathrooms are oases of white marble with walk-in glass rainfall showers and Aqua di Parma bath products. A top-floor spa with pool and hot tub, treatment rooms and hi-spec gym offering skyline views provide myriad options for leisure. Sink into a sumptuous banquette for a pre-dinner snifter at the Principe bar, whose centrepiece is an over-the-top chandelier and cast glass bar, followed by dinner in Acanto restaurant, serving Milanese and Italian specialties and impressive regional wines. An army of staff offer the attentive-but-discreet service that Dorchester Collection guests have come to expect. The Principe is a grand establishment and stylish outpost in the world’s fashion capital.
