“Former Victorian coaching inn turned into a popular family- and dog friendly Ilkley Moor village pub with rooms. Cosy bedrooms have a traditional feel with modern touches. Roaring fires, fab food and expect the popular dining room & bar to be busy. Unpretentious spot offering a local experience.”

Hotel review

Within sight of the famous Cow and Calf rocks on Ilkley Moor this welcoming pub in a quiet residential area is well-patronised by locals as much for its food as its beers. Visitors quickly feel drawn in to conversations in the bar and dining areas. Built during Ilkley’s spa-town heyday in the 19th century, the solid Victorian building, a few minutes’ walk from the station, has big bay windows and a central tower. The large ground floor is now a semi-open-plan space of bar, lounge and snug eating areas, and decorated in a modern country-inn style. Stripped-wood and tartan-carpeted floors form the backdrop to log-burners in stone fireplaces, mis-matched chairs and scrubbed tables. An eclectic mix of advertising posters, local artwork and mirrors hang on walls.

Colourful bedrooms range from cosy to larger under-eaves rooms; some have big decked terraces; others have freestanding baths in the room. All have treats in the fridge and moorland views.

Food is classily done pub favourites such as gammon steak and home-made burgers with more sophisticated dishes such as pork tenderloin with black pudding mash. There are separate vegan and vegetarian menus, too. Cooked-to-order breakfasts set you up for a breezy walk on the moors.
