About Andros Island

An archipelago of tiny cays and inlets connected by mangrove estuaries and vast underwater cave systems, Andros Island is one of the most underrated parts of The Bahamas. The largest land mass of the group, Andros Island offers a good selection of accommodation options, ranging from simple B&Bs to swish, all-inclusive resorts fit for a whole host of tastes and budgets. The best places to stay in Andros Island all promise spectacular diving — the third largest barrier reef in the world will be right on your doorstep.

Green, enormous and appealingly unexplored, Andros Island has been nicknamed ‘The Big Yard’. Although its wetlands, forests and beaches cover a vast 2,300 square miles, the island is home to just 8,000 people, most of whom live in Andros Town. Life, therefore, tends to be very quiet.

Venture to the Blue Holes National Park or to the West Side National Park to discover biodiverse ecosystems both on land and under water, with wonderful guided hikes, nature tours, boat trips, diving and snorkelling opportunities. Andros Island also has a world-class reputation as a fishing destination, making it ideal for keen anglers. Visitors can sail and kayak in tranquil waters, unwind on unspoilt beaches, or feast on fabulous fresh seafood after big days of adventure.

Whether you’re travelling as a family, with a group of friends or as a couple, Andros Island is a brilliant destination for off-the-beaten-track explorers of all ages. The best places to stay in Andros Island are right on the beach — perfect for starlit evenings with your toes in the sand, or live music around the campfire.
