Wine hotels in the Barossa Valley

Jacobs Creek Retreat

South Australia is Australia’s largest wine-producing state and Barossa Valley, to the north east of Adelaide, is one of the country’s flagship wine-producing areas. A region of verdant valley and rolling hills around the North Para River, it contains some of Australia’s oldest vineyards. The star turn here is the Shiraz grape which produces wine of great depth and complexity. Whilst there is a wide range of wine hotels in the Barossa Valley, our three favourites are intimate and indulgent.

For Romantics

Kingsford The Barossa© Kingsford The Barossa

  • Those seeking an intimate hideaway need look no further than Jacobs Creek Retreat, a seven-bedroom B&B with wonderfully romantic interiors. The B&B's pool and manicured gardens are idyllic. Savour big breakfasts, and spend your days cycling or walking before sampling Barossa Valley wines at nearby vineyards.
  • For a romantic treat, book a suite at Kingsford The Barossa. A converted 19th-century lodge, the hotel has 16 elegant suites, some in separate cottages and boasting private terraces. Apart from wine-tasting tours, there are bird-watching and wildlife-spotting opportunities and — for the ultimate romantic experience — a spa-bath with champagne set in the heart of the bush.

For foodies

The Louise

  • Foodies will adore The Louise, whose Appellation Restaurant is widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest. Dine on the terrace, savouring gastronomic delights whilst soaking up horizon-stretching views. The 15 contemporary guest rooms with private hot tubs gaze out over the vineyards. There’s also a soothing spa and gym. Absolute luxury.
