The wide green expanse of the Ancient Agora is a lovely, uncrowded contrast with the busy, rocky Acropolis - a place to wander at leisure and wonder at relics of the classical era. You'll find some of the best hotels near the Ancient Agora in Monastiraki and Psyrri, within walking distance of its gates. This was the heart of Athens in its golden age, a bustling marketplace and social hub where demagogues addressed crowds and philosophers lectured.
