For luxury

The Langham is historic and opulent property. Interiors are Art Deco in design — the pool room is particularly impressive with a wonderful blue wave pattern of tiles. With an extensive spa and gym, his and hers saunas and a restaurant headed by Michel Roux Jr. — this is a standout stay.
Courthouse Hotel is a stylish five-star set in a converted Magistrates Court and police station. The building's converted cells (where the Kray twins were held) and court spaces give this property a unique and historic spin. However, the interiors are seriously stylish and there are excellent facilities including a wellness centre, a lovely indoor pool, a cinema, and a bowling alley.
The Corinthia Hotel is a beautifully restored grand London hotel with a glamourous feel and sensational service. The magnificent original features of the building remain now set besides modern luxuries such as the marble bathrooms complete with built in televisions at the end of each bath. For a pool with a view

The Berkeley is one the few London hotels with an outdoor pool. The rooftop pool (with a retractable roof, so it's open come rain or shine) has a gorgeous terrace right beside it and fantastic views of Hyde Park. This grand Dame boasts impeccable service, beautiful rooms and suites, an iconic bar, a pampering spa and gourmet dining. Luxury defined.
Occupying some of the top floors of London’s tallest building, the Shangri-La at the Shard has enviable views of London. It’s not just their Gong Bar that gets the prime real estate; on floor 52 lies the Skypool which is billed as being the highest infinity pool in Europe. For central London

Close to Covent Garden and the West End, One Aldwych is certainly central. Classic on the outside, but wonderfully contemporary on the inside. There are spacious rooms and suites, a buzzy lobby bar, superb dining and a luxury spa. The chlorine-free basement pool has underwater music and mood lighting. A luxurious base to return to after a day's sightseeing.
The Savoy is a stunning Grand Dame in the heart of London’s West End. The Haymarket Hotel is recognisably by Kit Kemp. The decor is brightly coloured and confident, however, it still feels elegant. With an unbeatable location close to Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, the National Galler and Trafalgar Square, plus an underground pool with a glitzy poolside bar — this is a chic choice.
St Pancras Renaissance has a central London location and the benefit of easy access to the Eurostar. Outside this is a wonderful red-brick Gothic revival masterpiece while inside it’s more palatially modern. The pool is in a beautifully tiled chamber, which gives the impression that it’s designed for relaxing rather than laps, and is extremely elegant. Beside it are the spa facilities and steam rooms and upstairs are the rooms and suites and a range of restaurants which includes a Michelin star.
Once the Midland Bank, The Ned occupies an excellent spot right in the heart of the City of London. It’s fairly central close to the Tower of London and Spitalfields — a good area for weekend fun. The elegant design shows plenty of Art Deco influence and the pool is no exception to this; it’s super elegant with beautiful tile-work and lighting that’s nicer than some you’d see in many a hotel ballroom. The rooftop bar is wonderfully romantic and there’s a top-notch restaurant too.

For the most luxurious pool

For all the bells and whistles, an iconic London landmark, and a Regent Street address try Hotel Café Royal. The piece de resistance is its huge lap pool in the basement, right beside the sumptuous Holistic Wellbeing Centre and the spa and gym. There are 160 rooms in a range of design styles, from the very contemporary to the delightfully period. The range of places to eat and drink is similar.

For families

The Marylebone Hotel is popular firstly for the location, set in Marylebone Village which is a friendly and fairly relaxed area yet perfectly central. The hotel is big, it’s got 257 rooms and suites, with lots of configurations to suit families while the decor is fun and funky. The hotel size means there are plenty of amenities including an 18 metre pool, which looks a bit ‘nordic Olympics’ with its wood and straight lines, a state of the art gym, a health club and great places to eat and drink.
Town Hall in Bethnal Green is a clever redesign of an Edwardian municipal building. The result is a cool design hotel with some fantastic original features. For London, it’s great value, with some of its 100-odd rooms priced at less than £150 per night while apartments with kitchens will suit families. Complete with the popular Viajante restaurant plus a cool indoor pool — this is a desirable stay.
