One may view a “two-day immersive experience” at any hotel, albeit a luxurious one, with a degree of trepidation, however (the minimum) 48 hours at Hampton Manor is entertaining from beginning to end. Kick off is at 3pm with a welcome cocktail and Michelin-starred snack in the ‘Parlour’. Think melon cordial, cheese twists and a chive infused emulsion…. Sit back and take in your surroundings and assess your fellow guests! This is only the start of your journey. The Gothic period interiors are fundamentally heritage in style (damask, velvet, antiques) but with clever contemporary touches which elevate the Manor from being dowdy to dazzling. There are two world class restaurants which you will eat in on consecutive nights. The fun and vibey Smoke, located in the stunning walled vegetable garden which supplies the hotel, is masterminded by Stuart Deeley, winner of Masterchef The Professionals in 2019. Join other guests here around a giant rough-hewn shared table and watch in wonder at the industrious kitchen at work - grilling, flaming, smoking and creating deliciousness on a plate. Grace and Savour, which offers a tasting menu to die for - heaven. Learn to make bread with in-house baker Min (who will give you a pot of Fred her original ‘starter’ dough to take away). Enjoy a wine tasting in the old Victorian greenhouse. Indulge in rare malt whiskies at the Maker’s Table. Have a massage in the Pamper Rooms. Climb the Gothic Clock Tower. Or just relax in style.
The Great British Getaway ‘curated stay’ philosophy is huge fun and proving a fantastic success – you will need to book well ahead to get a room here. Hats off to the two generations of the Hill family who have turned this hotel around with unparalleled energy and vision.
Recommended for couples or older families. Groups can take advantage of The Cottage for extra privacy, sleeping up to 8 with a modern vintage vibe.
