“A delightful award-winning country inn in an idyllic location. Perfect for a weekend break, favoured amongst couples. Rooms and en-suites provide contemporary country chic. great base for walkers and foodies and those into typical country pursuits - fly fishing, walking and shooting.”

Hotel review

In the picturesque village of Stockbridge, delicious food and comfort await at this 15th century coaching inn that backs onto the River Test - regarded historically as the birthplace of fly-fishing. Recently refurbished to a high standard - think contemporary boutique country lodge interior - the pub retains a warmth and informality. Rooms in muted Farrow & Ball shades have button-backed bed heads, wicker bedside tables, louvred wardrobes, Moroccan kilims, tweed curtains and underfloor heating. Modern bathrooms house walk-in power showers or roll top baths. Savoy trained chef Alex Haughie presides over the atmospheric candlelit restaurant combining classic dishes (smoked haddock with poached egg) with a twist (pig’s trotter with apple & liquorice). Staff are friendly and professional and the place is understandably often packed with locals. Guests can book in for fly-fishing, casting off at the end of the garden and Alex will even bake the day’s catch.

The Greyhound on the Test, Hampshire: Fishing and

Having won Michelin Pub of the Year 2014, the Greyhound has added three very well-appointed bedrooms to the operation, bringing the total to 10. It is furnished with impeccably good taste. My room is cool and cloistered with a low window that looks out on to the high street. The gun-metal grey walls make a virtue of the low ceiling. There's a luxurious, well-made sturdiness to everything: the cut-stone basin, the thick white towels, the needle-point scatter cushions on the bed.
