Entering the cobbled courtyard of this atmospheric 200 year old hotel feels like stepping into a bygone era. Filled with potted jasmine, orchid and other exotic plants in amongst the tables, red bench seating and an old well, it's a wonderful spot to sit and contemplate the day or an unwritten novel over breakfast or a fresh lime soda. Characterful rooms share a similar theme - varnished wood floors and ceilings, antique furniture, Bakerlite electrical fittings and quirky details that capture the colonial spirit. All are en suite and either accessed via the main stairway or charmingly quaint spiral staircase or for the top floor superior rooms with rooftop views, guests have to climb the weathered outdoor steps leading off the courtyard. A café next door serves refreshments. Staff are gracious and Meena at the Travel Desk is invaluable if you need assistance with plans or organising your onward journey.
