Le Marche is a fantastic part of Italy to travel to with kids. Its cultural charms and cuisine, are reminiscent of neighbours Tuscany, Umbria and Emilia Romagna, and its long Adriatic coastline opens it up for beach holidays too. The fact that it’s a less popular region than its neighbours is another advantage for families, because the sandy beaches, and historic sites, are quieter, and there’s less competition for the best family-friendly accommodation. Some of Le Marche’s most appealing travel destinations are picturesque medieval hilltop towns, similar to those of Tuscany or Umbria, and the hillsides and valleys between them are where you’ll find some fantastic, family friendly converted villas and farm estates, masserias, and agriturismo — many with an all-important swimming pool too. Pesaro is a great base for exploring the coastline, along which there are charming ports and friendly seaside towns with great beach hotels. Ancona is the main transport hub for the region and has a large station, international ferry port and international airport, so it’s a good base if you're planning to explore further afield.
