Spoleto hosts one of Italy’s largest summer festivals, the Festival dei Due Mondi, so come festival-time, finding a bed for the night here is like finding accommodation in Edinburgh during the festival! So if you don’t have any luck, try looking just outside town, at the Borgo della Marmotta, Le Logge di Silvignano, the Castello di Montignano, or the Palazzo Bontadosi possibly. All of these properties offer a great base to explore this magical part of Umbria, with its many hilltop towns, and olive groves and vineyards.
If you’re not visiting during the festival — which happens over two weeks at the end of June, beginning of July — then you’ll have a much more affordable experience, and can bask in the splendours of antiquity and golden age Renaissance Italy in relative peace.
