The Best Hotels in Nyhavn
When most of us think of Denmark's capital city, we think of Nyhavn and its colourful 18th century townhouses by the water. We've seen it in postcards and travel mags, this former harbour and haunt of salty sailors, now a fairytale maze of winding streets and old buildings, cute cafes, jazz bars and restaurants. It's easily one of the most instagrammable places in Denmark, and it's the perfect location for a short city break to Copenhagen — it's within walking distance of the city's greatest sights or you can take a boat ride to explore the harbour (Guru advice: get tickets at the white kiosks — they're cheaper!). The best hotels in Nyhavn are all either on or near the waterfront, and they range from romantic stays to family-friendly hotels with spacious suites.
Waterfront romance
- If you're looking for a chic waterfront hotel, you can't get much better than Copenhagen Strand Hotel. It's in an enviable location, this lovingly restored former warehouse. Expect generous breakfasts (Danish marinated herrings, anyone?), peaceful strolls along the promenade, and easygoing walks to all the best bars and restaurants and major sights!
- Hotel Sanders is only 400 yards from Nyhavn, and this elegant boutique, located on a quiet residential street, is a great choice for couples on a sightseeing trip. We're not just talking about the lavish breakfasts. The views are stunning, especially from the rooftop, and there's a whole range of Italian restaurants nearby, while the hotel boasts a rooftop cocktail bar and bistro. Cosy, friendly and oh-so romantic, it's perfect for couples on a city break in Copenhagen!
Something cool and contemporary
- If you want a postcard-perfect colourful waterfront building, check out Nyhavn 71 Hotel, an effortlessly cool designer hotel set in a converted warehouse. Everything is slick and contemporary, with touches of the old: wooden beam ceilings with contemporary art and furniture. It's in the buzzing heart of Nyhavn, so expect those postcard-perfect views of the iconic area, and enjoy being near some amazing restaurants. Book a canal-view room for something special!
For families
- SKT Annae exudes historic sophistication, a 17th-century family-owned hotel just steps from Nyhavn Harbour with warm and cosy rooms. It's a fantastic option for families who should either book a suite or one of the spacious apartments. The views from the rooftop are stunning, and there's a choice of two restaurants — Nordic or Italian. This contemporary luxury stay is just a short walk from Amalienborg Palace, the opera house and a whole host of shops and restaurants. Cosy family luxury!
