“An intimate hotel offering a contemporary Alpine stay. Smart, yet cosy rooms, feature plenty of pine, clean lines and luxurious bathrooms. The restaurant is more of a traditional affair and serves superb cuisine. There's a sauna and massage available too for those looking to relax weary muscles.”

Hotel review

Gasthof Krone is the epitome of a ‘real’ hotel experience. Run by Dietmar Nussbaumer and the greater ‘Krone’ Family, it definitely feels like you are being welcomed into a typical Austrian Gasthof and invited to experience the Austrian way of life in the beautiful Vorarlberg. Hittisau, located in Bregenz in the region of Vorarlberg is surrounded by Alpine pastures, cows and beautiful hikes. If you love exploring nature on foot or enjoy cycling long distances through changing scenery, Gastof Krone is an excellent base to do it. The area is surprisingly also known for design and craftsmanship, which resonates throughout this ‘old’ hotel. Yet, the only thing old about the hotel is the history. Gasthof Krone is a little unassuming, housed in a beautiful building dating back to the 1800s, the outside looks old and rough but inside, modern furnishings promote what the region is known for – natural architecture and hand-made crafts. It is hard to find fault: the service is warm and sincere, yet highly professional. Each of the 27 guest rooms are furnished with local crafts – the mattress, tables, chairs; minimalism at its best. There are no TVs but they can be ordered if you are desperate! There is a fabulous wellness area with massages on offer and also two saunas and a relaxation room. Now run by the third-generation ‘host’, Dietmar, can be found greeting guests both at the reception and also at dinner. Like most Austrian hotels, half-board is recommended to experience both the exceptional hotel and equally exciting restaurant. The restaurant, offering a 4-course gourmet dinner, is led by Chef Michael Garcia-Lopez. You really can't go wrong with your order – excellent local starters include beef tongue or crispy trout dumplings and fabulous mains like locally caught trout and farm-raised lamb from local farmers are sublime.
