Hotel Review

Quirky and theatrical are danger words; not everyone likes to be welcomed by ‘our flirtatious Tonkinese, Freddie’ but most people love it. This is a very special place, filled with attractive things, spotlessly clean, trusting and friendly (there is an honesty bar where you write your own tab). It is old-fashioned in the sense that there is a lot of heavy soft furnishing, there are four-poster beds and some dark and interesting corners. They don’t do lunch or dinner but the breakfast offered would last many people all day; smoked salmon, kippers, ham, kidneys, toasted cheese on walnut bread, plus eggs many ways, etc. Run for many years by caring owner Jenny Hadfield, worthy of historic, fastidious Rye and a delight.
