Hotel review

Lime Wood Hotel is a quintessential luxury hotel and spa hidden away in the heart of the New Forest, Hampshire. Renowned for its impeccable service, stunning interiors and beautiful surroundings, it continues to be one of the best country house hotels in the UK. The rooms and suites at Lime Wood are decorated in a style that combines classic and contemporary creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. From the cosy forest cottages to the spacious suites, every room features luxurious bedding, fluffy pillows, Bamford bath and body products, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside or forest. We love the little touches which include a full ice bucket on arrival, generous complimentary in-room mini bar complete with crisps, chocolate, nuts and fruit and a sleep spray left on your pillow at night.

The Herb House Spa at Lime Wood is an oasis of relaxation and rejuvenation. Spread over three floors, it offers a holistic approach to well-being, combining state-of-the-art facilities with natural, locally-sourced products. You can indulge in a variety of treatments, from soothing massages to invigorating facials, all designed to restore balance and vitality. The rooftop herb garden, complete with sun loungers and a hydrotherapy pool, provides a serene space to unwind while taking in panoramic views of the forest. This is the place to come for lunch where the focus is on raw, fresh dishes.

The grounds and gardens at Lime Wood are equally impressive, blending seamlessly with the natural beauty of the New Forest. Explore scenic trails, lush gardens, and the grounds and gardens also feature charming outdoor spaces perfect for picnics and there's a croquet lawn for those who enjoy a healthy bit of competition!

Dining at Lime Wood is one of the highlights at Hartnett Holder & Co restaurant. Helmed by Michelin-starred chefs Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder, the restaurant offers a menu that celebrates British and Italian flavours using the finest local ingredients. The dishes are expertly crafted and beautifully presented, and include some well-loved Italian classics including fried zucchini flowers and mouthwatering, freshly baked focaccia. Lime Wood Hotel is undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in the UK for some rest and relaxation.

Map & Location

See what they say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Because Lime Wood is honestly situated in such an ideal location. Being only an hour and a half from London, it is the perfect getaway for those who are looking for a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The air is so fresh and the fact you can see the stars shine at night is what makes the New Forest so desirable. Staying at Lime Wood and being immersed within the stretching landscapes of trees and greenness just makes you feel so at one with nature.

What is there to do in the area? We have a selection of bikes that anyone is free to explore the density of the forests. Or for those who fancy a muddy walk on foot we also have a boot room filled to the brim of Hunter wellies, take your pick of colour! Within metres of the hotel find the Herb House where you can relax, swim, or gym to your hearts content. For those who’d like a little pampering, book in for a treatment with one of our product houses, Bamford or Sarah Chapman products. The spa’s own restaurant, Raw & Cured inspires the use of raw ingredients to create a menu full of nutrients, colour and diversity. With a selection of wines, smoothies and cured meats, Raw & Cured is just another bonus of spending a day within Lime Wood’s Herb House.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? A continental spread is served each morning with the choice of boiling your own eggs, homemade granolas, fresh fruit and pastries and cured meats and cheeses. The hotel also serves a choice of full and hot breakfast dishes that are created in the kitchen. Each breakfast morning takes place in Lime Wood’s own ‘scullery’, the perfect country house kitchen. Find shelves, pots, pans and plates decorating the soft blue walls.

Do you offer other meals and can you recommend good restaurants for lunch and dinner? During the day we offer Afternoon Tea in our Courtyard. The Courtyard is right next to the bar where you can enjoy wines, coffees and sprits with a colourful and equally delicious spread of cakes, sandwiches and biscuits. For a lunch or evening menu, HH&Co. is a restaurant that pulls together the signature styles of Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder. Expect a menu of Italian influence within a relaxed and comfortable restaurant full of character and flavour.

What are your most popular room types and why? With several room categories to choose from including, Eaves, Cosy and Spacious, the rooms within the main house are elegant and simple. The white and grey marbled bathrooms with soft furniture and a bespoke larder full of sweet treats and alcohol are perfect for when you can’t face leaving your room. Tucked away in the grounds of Lime Wood are lodges that are suited to those staying with children or perhaps those who are hoping for a real escape. Take the Lake Cabin for example, a secret hideaway made of reclaimed timber that is simple yet sophisticated. With your own mini kitchen area and a private outside bath that completes the ultimate secluded experience, the Lake Cabin is very romantic!
