“This Blue City family-run historical guesthouse would have European boutiques begging for the same charm, antique furnishings and intimate atmosphere. Charming, unique rooms with access to a rooftop restaurant. A prime spot for panoramic views of Jodhpur and the 15th Century Mehrangarh Fort.”

Hotel review

This charming and idiosyncratic guesthouse is a slice of Jodhpur life not to be missed. Enter the unprepossessing entrance in a narrow street and you are immediately embraced by Umaid, his son Manish, and their extended family. The 500 year old haveli has been owned by this Jain family for generations and run as a guesthouse since 1968.

It is hugely relaxed and friendly. Marble stairs and cool blue walls take you up and up to one delightful floor after another, until you reach tiled and shaded roof terraces at the top with uninterrupted views of the towering Mehrangarh Fort and city skyline.

The bustle of Jodhpur's old city is immediately outside; a short walk through the streets, dodging motorbikes, wandering cows and stray dogs will find you in Sardar market with its landmark clock tower, a daily riot of vibrancy and colour.

The 15 rooms are all different and vary in price to suit most budgets. Some have the old stonework and some, wall paintings from Indian myths and legends; all have good bathrooms with showers. The hotel does not have a lift but the climb to the top floor provides a good workout and is worth the effort! Food, served on the roof terrace is vegetarian and simple but wholesome.
