One of the plus sides of being slap bang in the heart of the commuter belt is excellent transport links to London. Get on the evening train from Waterloo and you will reach Chiddingfold in time for apéritifs. Overlooking the village green this centuries old property is chocolate box worthy. Whilst some of the rooms are a little pokey (the four poster beds and exposed beams can dominate) they are overflowing with character and antique pieces. Plus the refurbished bathrooms are almost equal in size. Owners Daniel and Hannah Hall are not newcomers to the hotel game and they understand their guests needs. The real award winner is their AA rated restaurant serving hearty, gourmet meals. Pub grub would not do it justice. They have an extensive wine list as well as local ales. If you're looking for a weekend bolthole in the country, The Crown Inn would be an excellent stay.
