The winding streets of the old town are lined with ceramics, wood carving and embroidery workshops aplenty — some of which host excellent art classes. Head further afield for guided birding walks, scenic sailing trips around the island’s coves and beaches, and to see the grave of First World War poet Rupert Brooke, who died on a ship moored off the island in 1915. • Fly to Skyros Airport, generally with a change at Athens International Airport if you're coming from outside of Greece. Alternatively, travel to the island on one of the regular ferries which journeys between the Sporades Islands during the summer months.
