About Kinsale

Kinsale, a picturesque harbour town in County Cork is famed for its colourful heritage buildings — and its status as the gourmet capital of Ireland. Expect winding streets lined with art galleries, craft shops, and award-winning restaurants showcasing the best locally sourced produce and fresh seafood. Many of the best places to stay in Kinsale are set along the coast or in the historic centre, offering easy access to the harbour, still very much a hive of activity in the early morning and evening.

History aficionados will be fascinated by the imposing 17th-century Charles Fort, a star-shaped military fortress offering panoramic views towards the water, or the well-presented Kinsale Regional Museum. For those interested in Irish history, the Battle of Kinsale Walking Tour provides insights into the pivotal 1601 battle that changed the course of Irish history. A short drive away, the Old Head of Kinsale is characterised by dramatic cliffs, a lighthouse, and a world-class golf course. Try sailing, kayaking, and whale watching in the Celtic Sea, or follow gorgeous coastal walks and cycling trails. The Scilly Walk, from Kinsale to the pretty village of Summercove, is a particular favourite, and the Wild Atlantic Way is glorious.

The annual Kinsale Gourmet Festival is another highlight — and the best places to stay in Kinsale fill up fast at this time! Foodies can scour the weekly farmers’ market for fresh produce, or book at table at one of the town’s acclaimed eateries for a delicious dinner within sight of the sea.
